Moving SIMS to a new server
I want to move our SIMS to a new server as the old server is so old and slow. Also will be replacing my SIMS workstations, so basically, starting from scratch. Can anyone advise how this is done, in particular the SQL side. I don't want to pay the extreme fees of my LEA if I can do it myself - fairly computer literate. Many thanks.

The SIMS and SQL part of the install are like a new installation. You then use the DBATTACH tool to reconnect the database once you have restored it from a backup. I think that Capita (or your local support team) can give you instructions.

Will this work if you migrate from MS SQL 2000 to 2005 at the same time?

Its a very easy process, you just need to copy the sql data file to the new server and then use dbattach.
