We have SIMS installed locally. Surely we should be able to run with it then?

From our point of view you should be OK to run with it. It is part of the curriculum suite. It could be your local team needs a little more time or they are waiting for the autumn release as this makes installs easier.

Just download it from SupportNet and install, it doesn't have to go on the SIMS server. You should be able to have a play.

It needs an SQL database and stuff though right, and to be able to export data from SIMS, so SIMS server is best place for it? Also, there's a patch I think I need to run to clean the data?

No, i wouldn't overload the SIMS server with it. Test it on a separate box. If you have VMs then that's perfect. The cleaning patch is only for Spring release users. Stop putting it off and download the manual

If your database is on Summer 2011 (7.140) then you don't need to run the patch.
