    EduBase - change of URL

    Dear EduBase user,
This is a Change Control Notice regarding the Changes to the EduBase URL and helpdesk email.
Date change effective on EduBase: 18th July 2011
Impact of change on EduBase: Change to data - all portals
The changes that will be made in EduBase are:
    EduBase portal changes:
By the 18/07/2011 the EduBase URL will change from www.edubase.gov.uk to www.education.gov.uk/edubase. Therefore from this date all users should access the application from www.education.gov.uk/edubase. For a short period if users enter the old website address, they will automatically be re-directed to the new URL. This will be for a fixed period ending December 2011. Please update all your book marked links to the web address.
    EduBase web services changes:
If you are using the EduBase Web Services facility, you will need to update your Web Services client to replace the old URL with www.education.gov.uk/edubase. If this is not replaced you will be prompted with an error. Only the URL will need to be changed, your username and password will remain the same.
For more information on EduBase web services please consult the Web Services User Manual, which can be found attached to this email.
    EduBase email changes:
Along with this change the helpdesk email will also change from helpdesk [at] edubase.gov.uk to helpdesk [at] edubase.education.gov.uk. For a short period if users enter the old email address, the mail will automatically be re-directed to the new email address. This will be for a fixed period ending December 2011. Please update the contact details you may have referenced on your systems or email application.
NOTE: If you have set any spam filters in your mailbox, it would be advisable to check your spam inbox, to ensure you receive emails from the EduBase email address.
    Establishment Users:
Please note that you can maintain your establishment details on the EduBase website at http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase (Home before July 18th).
This will allow you to ensure that your establishment headteacher details, the email and postal addresses will be fully up to date at all times. This is beneficial for your establishment, as these details are used by Ofsted, School Profile and the various Department for Education systems.
As an Establishment user, your Login name is 'URN_HT'. For example URN: 999999 login will be '999999_HT'. You can update your school details by logging on to http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase (Home before July 18th). If you have forgotten your password please click on the "Forgot your login details?" under the Login section on the EduBase website.
If you do not know your URN, you can still go EduBase and search for your Establishment by the school name, DfE Number or postcode.

Please note the Login credentials are only used to access EduBase and will not grant you access to any other Education websites. Equally other education websites credentials like S2S will not work in EduBase.
If you have logged in and found your school you can select the ‘edit record’ link to update your record.
    Further Support
Please contact the EduBase service desk on telephone: 0870 120 25 27 or email: helpdesk [at] edubase.education.gov.uk (helpdesk [at] edubase.gov.uk before July 18th) to raise any questions or issues this may cause. We can also offer assistance on editing your Establishment record or if you are experiencing EduBase login issues.

    Kind regards,
    EduBase Service Desk
    T: 0870 120 25 27

The data held by this website for our school is WAY out of date. The school homepage they have for us dates back to before my time working here [and that is more than 8 years ago now] yet is states that it was updated this year.

Check your schools' data. You might be amused at what you find?

EduBase is the central database of schools details, all schools are responsible for updating it. School use it to find out details such as DfE codes, general contacts for other schools. Key example, pupil transfers mid-year to other schools in UK. You need to send a CTF so you need the other schools DfE code. Very useful tool for office staff.

It's also sold to third parties. The agreement generally forbids using it for sales calls.

@mavhc - Have a look at Welcome to alpha.gov.uk - similar idea. All DfE services under 1 domain, saves on domain\ips\ssl certificates too. Read About Alpha.gov.uk | Alpha.gov.uk team blog for more\better info.

You school should have a login, same as S2S and Collect, login, update it. You LA may manage it so contact them if no one at the school has it. I believe it's the school responsible to up-to-date.

Matt is absolutely right - it is the school's responsibility to check and make sure that the info held there is valid and up to date.

All schools that go through the KS4 (and I assume also KS5) results checking exercise should be aware of this, as it is stated there that they need to use that site now to maintain the accuracy of the basic background info on their school.

I'm due to have a look at that over the summer to determine if it additionally still gets refreshed from any Census activity, or if its simply a snapshot from a certain time that will now only get updated if the school itself makes the change. I suspect, based on the warnings given, that it's the latter.
