11th May 2011, 12:04 PM #2 Looking good! Seeing as we cater for Foundation Stage to Year 13, with Lower, Middle and Upper Schools, I'm liking the Tier enhancements.
And maybe the Network Manager will re-install my workstation with 64Bit Windows 7 and Office 2010...
This 'Homework' stuff in SLG; is it me or is that bordering on VLE territory? Something Capita have categorically said it isn't, and will not be? Curious...

11th May 2011, 12:11 PM #3 I'll be glad when the timetable can be split by tier, which it sort of can now, if you have segregated resources. I'll bet you'll love it!
I'm still on XP, considering making it a VM before switching to Win7 or just sticking with what i've got and remote desktopping to a win7 box.
It is VLE territory, but i guess so is sharepoint, and SLG lives on that, so it's always going to be the case with anything they add. I didn't see how the homework is fed back to sims, i figured it was just stored on the sharepoint side.

11th May 2011, 12:22 PM #4 I'll be over the moon when the timetable can be split by tier. In order to make it work for next year we're looking at an 18 period day and a 6 week cycle!!!
My understanding of SLG has always been that it's about enabling two way real-time [ish] communication of data between SIMS and 'the web'. It's only ever made SIMS data available, but this Homework thing is different. I, too, would like to know where it fits in SIMS.
I think there's already too much overlap between SLG and a VLE and this just increases that. You have to have both in order to get the most out of the platform, so you end up paying twice for some aspects. We're getting CLG as our VLE, but a good part of it will be redundant as we're also looking at getting SLG for it's web-parts.
I personally think Capita should take a step back with SLG, and just provide the web-parts to fit into a compatible VLE, and / or expose the communication method so that VLEs that don't run on Sharepoint have better two-way access to SIMS data.
Maybe Capita are about to develop SLG into a fully fledged VLE...

Doubt that is the case, otherwise why would they acquire Synetrix and so have OPENHIVE under their umbrella?
Tend to agree with the first point too - they should knuckle down and just concentrate on making some very sexy looking web-parts or allow you to make them sexy, rather than the somewhat dated look that SLG has always had.

Capita and sexy... two words I never thought I'll hear in the same sentence. I look forward to seeing it on the roadmap

12th May 2011, 07:52 AM #9 I should imagine the 'Capita's gone sexy' press release will be made sometime next year, I'm thinking early April...

12th May 2011, 09:07 AM #10 As in a specific day, very early in April?? ;-)

12th May 2011, 09:35 AM #11 Well, it might be be mid to late April; we know what Capita are like with release deadlines...

12th May 2011, 11:20 AM #12 Hmmm - now I'm not sure if you were actually being sarcastic as I thought or referring to something real where you are in the know. If the latter - are you able to disclose what you are alluding to? :-)

12th May 2011, 12:37 PM #13 @resin1: Sorry, yes, sarcastic.
Indeed the Sexy SIMS release would be scheduled for April 1st, but as per Capita's usual adherence to deadlines, it would be delayed!
