So has anyone installed it yet?
Haven't installed the SIMS Summer release yet, but the FMS summer release went on without any problems.
About half a dozen set to SOLUS (2) overnight.....
Fair few over here
8 went through, one failed. No calls yet.
So we upgraded tonight. Last upgrade caused havoc in the school with Incompatible Database errors from half the staff laptops. Capita did send an explanation after the event saying there was an issue with some computers not running the upgrade. Techies looked at the explanation again tonight before upgrade and said that we had everything in place that Capita recommends. Mine and Attendance Officers upgraded ok. IT technician & 1 teacher have already reported incompatible DB. Dreading tomorrow morning! Anyone have any advice I can pass on to avert chaos?
Of 8 schools we had i teacher's machine with incompatible database. Most likely reason.... when given a choice.. run the update or cancel? They cancel.
The clients are not tolerable of that anymore. Eventually it gives up asking and gives up trying...... who can blame it.
Do Not Hit The Cancel Button!!!! It doesn't save time.
@SouthCoastSaint ensure the sims.ini has the SIMSSetupsDirectory as a UNC path, not a mapped drive - ie SIMSSetupDirectory=\\sims-server\capita$\setups, ensure all the users have access to the share and read\write\modify to the c:\program files\sims\ directory (at least) [and they are a power user]. Ensure DotNet4 is installed. This is key for Summer, it won't be able to register some of the DLL if DotNet4 is not installed when you run SIMSApplicationSetups
Ideally look at SOLUS3, however it isn't just a question of slapping it on, it takes a bit of thought and planning.
Hmmm, thing is though, I was the person who ran it on the techies machine after the upgrade (to test). I went in through Start, Programs etc, and as soon as I opened Sims, I got the log in screen, was never asked to run the upgrade...
Creese - I went through Programs as in the old days I was told always to do that after an upgrade - does that still mean shortcut?
Matt - thanks, that looks very similar to the info I sent the techies that Capita advised last upgrade. He did tell me all was ok as per the info, (it's blatantly not with a 50% fail rate so far). All machines definitely have dotnet4.
Solus 3 has been the longest protracted installation and despite a considerable amount of input from Stephen at Capita, we were never able to deploy. We have now uninstalled and re-downloaded but not installed the client on staff machines.
We don't have reg, the marks write back from lesson 1, so paper registers are not easy. In fact, the more I think about it, I may have to stay at home tomorrow!!
