8th February 2011, 02:18 PM #17 Please don't just take my word for it but it is what I was told was happening!
I have been referring to:- KB100597 - Does Capita support SQL Server 2008 R2? for quite a while now!
This also confirms this new support!

@teejay - I just want to confirm that you are talking about the OS, Windows Server 2008 R2.
This is and has been supported since Autumn 10.

A check with Capita should confirm this for you!
I have posed the question on SupportNet Technical Forum. Hopefully Pete Brown or one of his colleagues will report back!

@Sivadam - please be careful with the advice you are giving regarding software, it's not the first time, there has been confusion on this issue. SQL is not an OS.
As per your original quote, SQL 2008 R2 will be supported from Spring, however the question you appear to be responding to is regarding the OS.
The correct KB for this would be KB96979.
Questions regarding R2 (of either type) have been raised a number of times on the forums and there is always confusion between the two. I don't understand why some people don't understand the difference. On this point, going to SupportNet is the simplest solution.
Basically from Spring 11, It's possible to go with the latest of all systems, and have 64bit. Finally SIMS will have caught up.

I made one or two points at the Alternative Curriulum Meeting/UAT but they won't postpone the release because of what I said. Hopefully enhancements will make it to the Summer Release!

I seem to remember on one occasion that it was me that caused a delay! That's the idea of UAT - to try and break it!
I ain't found a release breaker on this one as yet and the only UAT I got left to attend is SIMS Discover on Friday - but that's already delayed!

Hi Mike,
Just to clarify the reference (on the relase notes) is to SQL Server 2008 R2. i.e. the SIMS SQL Server only.
Windows Server 2008 R2 (i.e. the Operating system) is already supported for SIMS, FMS, ADPS)
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Jon
