Russ, I think the SIMS registration app is lesson monitor. A search on google should throw up some spec sheets etc etc.

You can either use 'Lesson Monitor' which will allow the teacher to take the register offline or they can use 'Lesson Register' which is incorporated within the Sims.net framework and works very quickly indeed. Of the two i would recommend 'Lesson Register' as there are issues with the local access database which 'Lesson Monitor' reads from and you will find like we did that you have to delete the local DB from the workstation every night via a script to maintain the equilibrum of the application.
We use lesson register for teacher access to mark their registers, and lesson monitor with the admin staff for reporting etc. Sims also now do a Mobile version of lesson register for PDAs but it does take a bit of setting up and their instructions aren't exactly user friendly either. (They have said they are working on this).
As part of our continued development - we are moving the Lesson Monitor functionality into .net.
Schools that are currently using our Lesson Register product will notice a big enhancement in May 2007, when the Lesson Monitor functionality (edit lesson marks, key reports etc) moves into .net.
Clearly, the advantage of the Lesson Register product within SIMS, is that the links to the rest of the SIMS system are seamless - meaning that it easy to link from the Class Register to Behaviour, Assessment, Fees, Student Basic Details, Detention, etc.

We always got on well with TASC's PARSql.
We (Teaching Staff) use Lesson Register Russ. Nice and simple to use. All our (60) Staff use it without problem every lesson. We introduced it together with email and were surprised how quickly all staff picked it up. Most stuff is a couple of clicks - literally - so teaching staff to use it is very easy.
Backend monitoring etc is done with Lesson Register.
Deployed lesson monitor last september however quickly encouraged all teachers to use Lesson register within Sims. All staff picked it up quickly (quicker than i thought) and now use it for every lesson and we no longer have an afternoon reg as Period 5 doubles up as PM reg.
Lesson monitor is still used by admin but the local access dtaabse things is an issue and if a problem occurs deleting this 99% of the time fixes the problem.
For the record i wanted to go with PARS but am happy now with this solution.

We use Lesson Register - a fantastic product with the ability to add comments to each student. A very quick and easy system - since we moved from Bromcom folders!!
Lesson Monitor is a complete dog. We are trying to move staff onto Lesson Register ASAP having found out how much quicker, easier and more reliable it is.
This is really important - Lesson Monitor is now for off-line working and reports. Lesson Register (now Take Register!) comes with LM is the .net versiojn.
Just to clarify a few things (since we have a member of SMT off at the moment and all of the proposed E-reg stuff has landed on my deskOriginally Posted by PhilNeal

We need to get some form of registration that will link seamlessly with SIMS, allow the registers to be taken at the beginning of each lesson and be as simple as possible. A bonus would be some form of browser based app so that SIMS didn't have to be loaded at the beginning of each period. It'll probably have to be a Capita product 'cos SMT say so.
Does Lesson Monitor (Take Register?) do all this?
Any and all advice welcome. Pitfalls, problems, technical issues etc.
Cheers

Take Register is not a browser solution but it does link seamlessly to the rest of SIMS. It also deals with recording behaviour incidences, detentions and from May pupil report cards.
We do have a browser solution but that is part of the SIMS Learning Gateway which is much bigger than recording attendance.

Who do I call at Capita to ge a demo or more details of these products? I have a name (won't post it here), but who would you recommend. I will need costs as well.
Thanks
