sims restore
I have recently for my own piece of mind been revisiting my disaster recovery strategy and so attempted to restore my sims database from a recent back up i use arcserve to backup and it seems to work without fault however in order to recover i need exclusive access to the sims database when i use sql manager to attempt this it tells me that it can't be in single use mode while others are logged on, its quite late and no-one is logged on how can i force it to kill any sessions it thinks it has?
thanks in advance.

Re: sims restore
Others will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it matters.
Whe you recover you will be overwritting the live database anyway.
Proabably just restarting the SQL Server service should be ebough.
Also temporarily change the permissions for the S: drive.

It is also possible to run a scheduled DB attach backup to create a backup of the SIMS database that can be copied to the tape.
Our schools use this system to ensure that the database is live at all times and data can be backed up.

yeah cause you are working within the database. This routine uses the SIMS built in sql users. It is also worth considering any other product you have attached to the database. We have schools that use PARS for registration and this can stop any SIMS database being able to go into single user mode.
