    SIMS.Net / SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)

    Hi all,

Has anyone tried installing SQL Server 2008 SP2 on their SIMS.Net server to see if it works? It was recently released on WSUS (KB2285068) and is showing as Needed on my SIMS server, but don't want to install it if it will break anything.

NB Before anyone replies, I am *not* taking about SQL Server 2008 R2, which is *not* currently supported - I am talking about SP2, which is a service pack release.

Often SIMS does not support the most recent service packs for a while, if at all with R2 now out. Obvious, but have you got a test environment to try it on? More than likely it will 'work' but not be supported if anything goes wrong.

No test environment as things stands, just wondered if anyone had given it a try & found it doesn't work before I have a go myself!

I did it last week, but only rebooted last night.

No problems except server didn't restart again but that was due to a DC going down at the same time unfortunately. No real bother.

Been running fine all day and had no other complaints, so that's FMS, Lesson Monitor / Attendance, Cover, I've been knocking out 20MB rtf reports on the server, and admissions are processing stuff too, so i reckon all clear so far.

Capita say to have the server fully patched\service pack'd. Having said that, I would still wait to see if anyone has any general errors with the SP, if Capita finds a specific problem that would affect SIMS, they are pretty good at tell us (is that laugher I hear?)

    Hi,

Just to say I applied SQL Server 2008 SP2 to our server last Thursday, and it has been running since then without any problems.

    Kind regards,
    Chris Hill
