Guys this isn't helpful - there are areas of SIMS that NO NOT WORK WITH Office 2010!
Guys this isn't helpful - there are areas of SIMS that NO NOT WORK WITH Office 2010!
I would dare to suggest that you guys that do not have problems with Office 2010 may not be using SIMS to it's full potential?
Apologies if you are!
For example, do you include Assessment graphs within AM7 Reports? We have a case open at the moment where the Axes Labels on the graphs are currently delivering points scores rather than the Sub-Levels that they were delivering prior to the Autumn Release. This is Office 2007!
Quite a sophisticated use of Word and, at some point, we need to test this sort of thing on Office 2010 after the Spring Release. But it will only be done on the one workstation first! I had enough problems converting from Office 2003 to 2007 in terms of Templates for AM7 Reports, Profiles Reports, Merged Reports to produce all the Letters and Certificates within Attendance, Exclusions, Detentions etc etc.

What is is with MIS suppliers, you guys do somehow manage to take your sweet time supporting software. Is it a problem with your development pipeline or just a lack of foward planning. Our local supplier is just as bad and still has not got official x64 support even though we have it working just fine.
I think the proof is earlier in this thread. Capita do not use beta or Release candidate software for testing because "it might change".
The entire point of Microsoft releasing those version is so that partners can prepare their software.
So until they change this policy I doubt it will change in the future. 1 year is far too long though.
Although saying that, Capita have managed to push out sharepoint 2010 support for SLG which is pretty impressive. Its just a shame when the trainer turned up he had never used sharepoint 2010 and all his training documents were for the 2007 version!

We have Office 2010 here & generally SIMS works fine with it.
The only problem that appears to have manifested itself (and as a result, required us to downgrade the problem machine to Office 2007), was when the user was trying to attach / print mail merged letters to the students information.
At the moment, 2010 isn't supported by SIMS.
I believe that they are in the process of looking at getting support for it.
There goes that echo again...............

So is Sims now compatible with Office 2010?
I just had a member of staff trying to use some templates for reports and she's telling me she rang Sims and they told her to "re-install office 2007" as a solution. She also said that capita told her that other schools are not using office 2010.
Thanks yes thats what I thought.
On ringing them we've finally been able to get some advice to delete "IndRepBasetemplate.dot" and apply a patch tonight.
I will see how it goes but looking at the patch 14879 source i'm not hopeful, it was written in 2009!

Sounds like it will just put a new base template it, which if it's been modified to work with 2010 will be great. Probably the same template but with extra conditions for 2010, though the KB does just read like SIMS can't see the location so replacing it will just fix that.
I'd be very interested to know if this works, as it could be the panacea for all of use with Office 2010 problems. I know that they have said SIMS still wont work with .dotx or the newer file types, i'm assuming this is all related to maintaining backward compatibility.
@zag - did you see the recent threads regarding issues with roaming profiles and office 2010, reports, quickletters etc. Be interested to see if they affected you.
Think this patch worked! Hurrah!

@zag - can you please now try the other areas that have been affecting people:
mailmerge reports
quickletters
late latters
photolist reports
and with all of them try to run twice or thrice in succession.
Sorry to be a pain, just trying to work out if the patch has fixed all issues or just the one you had with regard the base template.
