SIMS - Struggling to make a report

I'm struggling to make a report and hope for some of you SIMS gurus can help!

The report needs to read as follows:

Year Group | Reg Group | Surname | Forname | Teacher | Room

The report needs to contain all those pupils with a '-' mark (i.e. a missing registration mark) for PM registration and display their period 5 teacher and the room that they should be in.

It doesn't sound very hard, does it? Instructions or report definitions welcomed

is period 5 designated as your pm session or is it the one after?
there is probably a built-in report that does most of what you want, but not all.
room doesn't normally come up.
can you live with forename surname in one field?
is reg group enough to let you infer the year..?
i'd be tempted to write a custom report.

I have one that will give you all the info you want but in reverse, (i.e. Teacher | Room | Student Forename | Student Surname | Year | Reg etc.) I can send you that or I could probably reverse it for you if it absolutely has to be in the order you specified (I'm just trying the lazy option first )

Also forgot to mention, it has filters for which period on which day so you can re-use it (if you want any more filters I can add those in for you too)

It probably does need to be a custom report... period 5 and PM registration are the same but they're not. We just record AM/PM reigtration in SIMS

The object of the report is find which teachers keep failing to register kids correctly during period 5.

This should do the trick, you have filters for date, period, AM/PM mark and what mark they got, as well as year group. I strongly recommend you do it a year at a time, there are 3 sub reports in it which means it'll cripple your memory if you try to run it on too many students at once!

The period name works as follows:

D = Day
P = Period
W = Week

1 week timetable - DDD:P (e.g. Mon:1)
2 week timetable - WDDD:AP (e.g. BMon:A1)

(note the 'A', in our system this represents week 1, and is always 'A' even if you're looking at week 2/'B'. This might work slightly differently in your system depending how your timetables are set up)

Let me know if you have any trouble with it, particularly with period names, they're far too awkward for my liking!

Oh I forgot to say, it will be in "Focus > Period > Student - Current Class" once you import!

or even better activate the missing registers homepage panel and just send them high pitched squeeling messages when they dont do the register...

Because I want to see who is messing up... missing marks only shows the registration tutor (who isn't necessarily the one registering them in the afternoon).

You'd think that they'd get the idea of how to use the registrators but some people simply aren't registering the kids correctly!

Strange... Sorry to state the bleeding obvious, but you have unzipped it?

Maybe it's not liking the attached template (even though it's only the default Excel Portrait one...) try this version instead:

Same file size, mustn't have included it anyway... Never had a problem importing a report before

You are a genius (the report was zipped funny it turned out - I had to unzip it and then extract the file that I'd just extracted from the zip ).

That is perfect... only thing is that our day naming strcture is different so period 5 on Tuesday of week 2 becomes 2Tue:5

Thank God for that! Glad to be of assistance The day naming structure in Sims can get confusing beyond belief, glad you sussed it and it works though
