Installing FMS on a new workstation?
Signed up a little while a go and it seems a very nice community! :-) We havn't had to use you until now!
After much nagging, we decided to agree to buy our Business manager a new high spec PC.
Capita seem to be as much use as a chocolate teapot!
FMS seems to be causing us a problem.
SQL Native client has been installed along with FMSApplicationsetup.exe
The FMSConnect.ini file was then copied from a working FMS machine into the same location on the new machine. (Was told to do this by Capita)
We have never had to re-installed FMS on any machine - it's just worked, so it all is new to us!
Is the above the right procedure? Do we have to do anything else afterwards?
I read somewhere about having to copy the entire MSSQL folder from the Finance folder on a working machine?
Any help and tips would be much appreciated!

Where is the FMS database located, on this machine or on your server? You'll be able to tell by looking in the FMSConnect.ini if you're not sure. If it's on your local machine then you'll need to reinstall SQL etc and copy over the DB.

According to Capita SupportNet.
How do you reinstall FMS on a workstation? Advice
To reinstall FMS on a workstation you will need to carry out the following:
1. Firstly navigate to the FMSSQL folder located within the SIMS directory on the workstation.
2. Rename the FMSSQL folder to something different (example FMSSQLold).
3. You will then need to navigate to the FMS setups folder on the server and run the FMSApplicationSetup.exe.

Thanks for your help guys, has helped alot this morning
I have now got FMS working on 2 of the machines in our office which have SQL Server 2005 Express including Native Client installed. Have tested FMS and this is fully functional.
I have done exactly the same on the new machine ie. install fresh copy of SIMS and FMS, i then get the following error opening both databases:
'An error occurred while attempting in initialize the Borland Database Engine (error $210A)'
I think somewhere along the line something has screwed up. I might just rebuild the machine and start from scratch?

Run the setup again. (FMSInst.exe)
According to SupportNet:
Please run the BDE installation. This can be done using the discs below:
6.83 disc and below - Reinstall FMS ensuring 'sims applications' is ticked on the 'installation components' screen
6.91 disc - run the BDE install option

I would ask for the latest FMS iso. Burn to a disc. Use that. It's got all the guff you need plus a nice (capita) manual.

Thanks to all
I had the same problem installing FMS on a workstation.
Error $210 resolved by downloading & installing BDE.
"Create user DSN Failed" sorted by downloading & installing SQL native.
Thanks to all who posted on this. Great!!

Can someone link me to the install of BDE.exe ?

It's included in the SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe I believe. Just run it and select the FMS Components option.

Found it online and installed - that particular issue is now fixed. Unfortunately I have a "handle request" error (stupidly I didn't write down the exact name at the time), found one thread on here but can't seem to find it again. Argh! I resorted in copying a working FMS install directory over to the new/broken machine (as suggested on the particular thread) but it didn't work.
Why can't things just work as expected!?
