In view of the move to SQL 2008 this year, what sort of increase in resources is SQL 2008 going to need over SQL 2005?

Have a look at the new hardware spec... www.sims.co.uk/hardware, should give you an idea. Generally this is the perfect excuse to get a shinny new server.
As for actually comparing them, have a look at the MS requirements
SQL 2005
http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2...uirements.aspx
SQL 2008
Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008

Can you make it clearer in your title that this only affects SIMS please?
Surely everyone should be moving away from SQL2005?

I'll change it just for clarity.

Reallt they should have waited for the R2 version of SQL - 2008 is dead already!
Yes, but it's the whole thing, if you wait a bit longer, something better will come along. Still doesn't stop the fact SQL 2005 loses support soon and it takes time to upgrade 22,000+ SQL engines. Until Microsoft stops making money, we'll keep updating SQL even though there is a newer, better, uber version on the way - or so Mr Microsoft wants us to think![]()
