sims slow to save data for some users

Can't find an solution to this anywhere so am posting to see if anyone has ideas or has experienced this.
A few users - 3 or 4 have trouble in that when they do something such as add a detention or even alter a parents phone number in sims when they click on save to commit the data it can take 1 or 2 minutes or longer to save the data.
When i logon the machine with a different account but same sims login it works ok - so it is connected to the user account.
Things I have tried to no avail:
    restarting the sims server
deleting local profile and creating new roaming profile on server
deleting redirected application data folder on server for that user
checking local permissions on the machine

Nothing to go on in any event logs.

I had this problem a few months ago with one user - ended up creating a totally new account for her and it fixed it but don't want to do that every time - have to get mail across etc.

    Any help appreciated.

Could be related to the same issue I have running reports.

For a couple of users, it can take ages, yet for me it's quick.

I've not yet found a fix.

Could be a lack of memory on that workstation. A not uncommon phenomenon!

It can't be memory sivadam, memory is not user specific.

It's worth considering what time you try the tasks and at what other system usage is going on at the time the user tries, also how long they have had sims open, especially that particular area of data. SIMS is not great at releasing memory it has gobbled up.

Have you checked your AV settings?
Tried excluding your SIMs mapped drives from on demand scans?

Detection of application and network interaction can be tricky.

Here are three ways to help,

    1. Quest softwares Spotlight for Windows freeware.
This will let you monitor the workstation and sims server using WMI whilst the user is driving the application in Realtime.

    2. Get a notebook with wireshark and a network tap or use a second USB network adapter, set up the onboard nic and USB in bridged mode and position it between the troublesome user and the network capture the traffic during a troublesome session and spend a few hours sifting through the results or push them through a commercial analyzer.

    3. Simply plug in my Nettool MK II and see where the problem is instantly.....

Probably memory leaks. My record is SIMS traking up about 800MB of RAM before it crashes...

Also, we've found at our site in the past that updating student data in STAR (i.e. contact info, the kind of stuff you access from the Student Details view and have to change to make the census work...) can take a long time to save, and if lots of people are doing it at once can slow the entire site - it may be trask-specific rather than user-specific.

thanks for replies on this - driving me crazy.
Going to try several things - look at sophos first and then try monitoring.
When this affected a user before I ending up making a new user account and this fixed it permanently for that user - but tried that this morning for diffrenet affected user and no joy.

We have the same issue here for a few users. I can run a report it takes only a few seconds to complie yet another user takes upto 40 mins to run same report.

taskmanager shows excel taking up 100%

I have deleted the users local profile and that has been a temp fix but the issue is re-occuring so still looking here

Can sometime be down to the My SIMS Documents folder. Usually just deleting it and logging off and back on fixes it. But if you've already gotten rid of the profile and recreated it, it doesn't sound like it's that. But that's what's always caused us problems.

update on this - it is connected to sims user account not windows accounts as first thought.
When logging in to sims with a different temp sims user account it works ok - still logged on machine as same user.
Have tried deleting data from my my sims documents on user home folder but made no difference - still not got a solution yet but user can use temporary account whilst I work on it.

    solved

finally solved - it is the My Sims Documents folder - even deleting contents does not work - rename it to something else - when sims starts up it creates a new one and all works ok.
Reason new user account did not work was that I connected it to old home folder.
Thanks for help on this - as usual edugeek provides the answer no one else can provide.
