What usually causes this error? Is it when you're in a particular module or performing a particular task?
Also, have you tried choosing the option to "Search for Solution Online" when the error message appears?
It happens when the user is just inputing normal data the sims online solution doesnt give me any information regarding this error message.

I regularly get an error if I've entered a lot of data in one session, I haven't found a solution though other than to save regularly just in case! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

@Neville:
It would be a little more helpful if you could tell us what module the user is having difficulties with.
I suspect around this time of the year it is with the census.![]()
It is happening when they are putting in employee details i am not sure what module this is.
Also sims crashes when we are doing the registers if we try to do a whole class at the same time but if we do it small batches it seems ok.

@Neville:
Are you a secondary or primary school?
Do you have an LA help desk?
I would get in touch with them ASAP.
Employees details are part of the personnel part of the Sims but you seem to be having problems with Data entries on a number of modules it could be your server which is not able to cope with the amount of data being entered.![]()
It happens in all areas of SIMS if you are doing repeated actions for a long time. The issue has been with us all for a very long time.
We think we have almost isolated exactly where the problem lies but we are testing it before we get back to Capita with a new case.
Clue:-
Stick more memory in the workstation and you will get a longer period of time before it crashes!
Yup, it's a bug that's been in SIMS .Net for ages. Something to do with one of the modules that SIMS is built out of not releasing memory after it's finished using it for editing a record. totally harmless and just a minor irritation really
Edit: It seems there is some advice for it now (not that I'm hopeful... I suspect you'll do the following and it'll still happen)
Supportnet KB56887 (that's how old it is they're on KB90000-odd now)
FIX 1:-
Run Database Diagnostics & Validate Memberships, found under the Tools menu in SIMS.net.
If the error persists, upgrade to the latest version of SIMS .net via SOLUS 2. It may also be necessary to run through FIX 2 below.
FIX 2:-
1. Remove SIMS Infrastructure - via Start | Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs
2. Remove Microsoft .net Framework - via Start | Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs
3. Rename the local SIMS .net folder eg C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS.NET to OLDSIMS.NET
4. Run S:\SIMS\SETUPS\SIMSINST.EXE and select 'workstation'.
This will update the Infrastructure on the machine.
The install requires Local Administrator rights.
5. Run e.g. S:\SIMS\SETUPS\SIMSAPPLICATIONSETUP.EXE.
This installs/updates SIMS .net and the modules.

As I have posted in SupportNet before now - it is just 'SIMS Health & Safety Module' kicking in, to remind you that you have been doing summat for far too long. It shuts down so that you can make a cup of coffee and rest your eyes and brain!![]()

If I've been running sims a long time I find it's using about 700 mb of ram - often worth logging out of sims and then back in after a while!
