I can see the advantage of SIF, believe me. I just can't justify the cost in my mind. As someone who has developed these custom systems for our school, I would have zero chance turning around to my manager and saying 'we want a ZIS and need to sort out a SIF agent or 2, it'll cost us £1000+'. It just won't happen, I'd be expected instead to come up with a solution like I have now which polls the system periodically for data I want - for free.

I thought that these Forums did not support any particular MIS and that blatant advertising etc was not allowed.
So why have the MIS Forums now become sponsored by a company producing a MIS?
Maybe they should now put this out to tender and sell out to the highest bidder!

Supporting and advertising aren't the same thing. If Capita wanted to advertise here, I'm sure they could've asked! The site carries adverts by RM at times too, should that not be allowed either, simply because they make an MIS?

Sivadam - all of the other forums have a sponsor that do this - Unix CIPA filter for example..there are other filters available but they paid a little more and got more exposure as a result...isn't this the point of sponsorship?

Didn't this one used to be sponsered by RM Integris anyway? I'm sure I used to see that advert floating arround somewhere.

There can only be one word for this! DISGUSTING

So much for the impartiality of these Forums!
Roll on the Red Reputation I will no doubt get in the next few weeks/days!
Then again, it ain't the first time that parts of this site have had the same effect and, no doubt, it won't be the last!

Strangely, I had not noticed the previous Sponsor. So much for the value of advertising! An initial impact but absolutely no good later!

The forums are impartial, the advertising supports the existence of the forums and all the other things that Edugeek does for you/us. Other forums have sponsors and they manage to remain impartial. Perhaps your own lack of impartiality is clouding your judgement.

I find it amusing that this thread has mostly been about the pros and cons of free vs paid MIS and everything inbetween... without a common opinion made, and then the forum is sponsered by said free software. lol

I am not sure the Forums actually do anything for me! I am here to try and do something for the Forums - as explained on many occasions. Hopefully I have had an effect, no matter how small!
As for my impartiality (or not!) then check out my last umpteen posts! They have been (in my humble opinion!) very impartial except when somebody has unfairly criticised one particular MIS!

So can I take it that the current advertisement was approved on a 'best value' approach i.e. Edugeek advertising went to the bidder who responded with the best offer to the 'tender invitation'?
Or is there some insider influence?

Can I take it that you do not regard any MIS other than (insert your preferred MIS here) to be best value then? What would you have done if say SERCO had sponsored the forum and not a young 'upstart' company like ScholarPack.

I think you ought to withdraw that insinuation as it is both offensive to our company and (I presume) to Edugeek.
