Becta's School MIS & Value for Money follow up!
I have just been handed down a copy of this circular from Becta (the file is attached to this post). I wonder how much this has to do with the possible complaints Becta has been receiving from software suppliers about Capita's anti-competitive practises and the recently claimed £75m over charge by Capita?
It appears that Becta may be getting their teeth sharpened and a form of more serious 'investigation and review' is on the way!
What’s everyone’s opinions?

Becta MIS Review
Becta have written to all Directors of Children’s Services to bring their attention to an independent review that it is commissioning into the marketplace for school management information systems. This is a follow up to the review that Becta undertook in 2005.
LA colleagues may recall that only 30 LAs contributed to the 2005 review. Capita is keen to ensure this current review takes into account as many of its customers’ views as possible and would therefore encourage you to ensure that you are involved in responding.

Yep, interoperability is a big issue, which limits competition and innovation.
The other big factor is their DSCF changing the minds every 5 minutes about census data, attendance, etc etc so that bits of the software have to be continually rewritten.

They change their mind because they have to hide the data, sort out the problem, then show the improved results data.
Hate the whole system does my nut in, lies, damn lies and statistics

One wonders what farce this could turn out to be .............
Will it be as bad as their 'approval' of Learning Platforms - none of which appeared to match their own criteria, especially in terms of interoperability!

Oooh Becta - I'm sure suppliers will be quaking in their boots!

Love that Phil ... though it is further proof that there is a secret Cabal if Capita are worried about conspiracy theories

Capita's anti-competitive practises
Strange how everyone seems to be looking at Capita all the time. Lets not forget that Bromcom used to hold the "rights" to attendance recording using wireless and made everyone use their option or else.
