    Spec me a Sims.Net Server

Finally, we've got the money for a new Sims.Net box. What do I need spec-wise to support 30-odd concurrent users?

    Help & advice much appreciated.

Depends on how much those 30 users use it, but not a great deal tbh. RAID 5 SAS array, quad core xeon, 4gb ram. Something like the Dell T300/R300 would be more than enough

Almost any normal server would do, just make sure it has 4gb of Ram.

I also used an SSD drive this time around and the speed increase is amazing.

Yeah, go 64-bit and plenty of RAM, 8Gb at least. Mirrored drives for O/S, seperate RAID for the data drive.

If you're using Lesson Monitor and have Sims Learning Gateway or intend to, then you would want to put that into consideration. As this is a new server, you may want to account for the fact that you will need to upgrade to the next version of MS SQL in a few years time.

Few years? You mean a few months right?

Going on the assumption that this is a new server and therefore will have SQL 2008 on it.. i mean a few years.

We've just bought a Dell R300 and is perfect. While SQL runs on the box (for processing), the database files and other files are stored on a SAS SAN fibre channel connected, brilliant speed, backup and redundancy.
