Can you elaborate on this? All the documentation I have seen on this implies that Volume Shadow Copy Service can handle "live" files without a problem.

I have not noticed any problems backing up SQL Server 2000 with NTbackup. But I would like to make sure I am doing backups that will actually restore.

I would say so, any database thats live and open cannot be backed up properly.

Do you get SIMS to do its own backup via the System Manager everynight ? (how do I automate this?)

Or just use Backup exec or NTbackup to backup the whole MSSQL folder to tape and disk ?

    Re: SIMS Backups

    Anyone use Cobian 8?
I am just evaluating at the mo but am getting good results Backing up to Buffalo NAS.
This has a function to stop services such as MSSQL and it's agents but as i say just testing at the mo.
Don't know if this has been covered on the forum and if it has well sorry for wasting peoples time.
Anyone have any other info on how well or badly cobian worked for them i would like to know.

    Cheers

I have used previous versions of Cobian backup with good results. Is it still free?
