We've been told in school today by an HMI inspector who was at a meeting last week (or the beginning of this week) with Capita that there is to be a SIMS module for the iPhone. Apparently this is in development.
I've just read a post by Russ which outlines discussion from Capita (cannot remember his name on here - is it Phil?) about the vision of using iPods/iPhones - apparently it is happening.
I have no other information about it - just saying. I wouldn't mind testing it with our SIMS.

23rd October 2009, 06:38 PM #6 If they just create a web based version optimised for portable devices, rather than just an iphone app, that would be better. Less to maintain, more devices would have access and it would potentially be more secure.

actually one of the features that really impressed me about frog is that it does this,
back on topic, why not make it a windows app so that you could just use a PDA or windows based smartphone, you know a bit like bromcom managed to do years ago!

Because then it would be restricted to a relatively small market compared to symbian, os x (for iphone/ipod), android, etc... Why target your app at a single platform, when it would be just as simple to create a multi-platform one?

And yet designing for iPhone/iPod Touch would be restricting it to just those devices from my understanding of programming for them not just "all macs". I'm just interested to hear about security and such for users that link into their AD based networks and such.

I'd rather just the current PC software worked all the time and glitches were fixed 'tout de suite'!

27th October 2009, 01:06 PM #14 This was Demo's at the SIMS conference earlier in the year. Phil Neal accessed a register using the app on an ipod touch and tool a register and showed the basic functionality.
It was a proof of concept tho i think. Although my personal feeling is that as touch devices are taking off accross all platforms, Capita could be looking at Symbian or possibly even Android rather than the small market share apple has.
Mind you the Apple Slate is on the horizon . . .

27th October 2009, 02:27 PM #15 I thought that it was an iPhone friendly page from SLG that was used for that demo? That would be the easiest way.
