I want to deploy and run the SIMS.NET client from a UNC path. I'm going to do some quick virtual testing, but I wonder if anyone knows or has tried this?

I've tried this on a basic SIMS installation and it seems to work....
Yep we do. Had major problems with Software restrictions and allowing the S: drive so changed it to our server name. Now everywhere we had s:\sims we replaced with \\SERVER\sims\sims and it works fine.
I would be really interested to learn how you did this guys.
If you use Nova-T for cover and viewing/printing then you will still need to map a drive on some workstations.
Similarly if you use SIMS Options and Nova-T6 for preparing next years timetable then you may still need the S: drive (or whatever letter you use).
As long as you don't need to keep using any of the older modules access via launcher then there is no reason why you cannot use the unc path. Jim mason at Capita confirmed that there should be no problems as long as you aren't using Nova, etc

And as long as you are not using FMS to manage your school finances?Originally Posted by StevenEdgar
I only bring this up because it does not appear to be made clear in these posts.
quite right - easy to forget about FMS - agaion will be ok once it moves to SQL 2005 later this year
On a related matter I assume everyone is familiar with the various versions of SQL 2005
