    Sims Report with Photos

I'm trying with the basics first! I just want a simple report of a year group. First Name, Last Name, Admission Number and a Photo in Excel Format. Sims doesn't seem to want to produce this. Any ideas?

Er, use the default "Photos" report under Reports > Students and modify to suit?

Or use Nova T4 to do it instead?

(yes, it's out of the ark, but it does have that functionality).

    Geoff,

I don’t think you can output photos to excel from SIMS (at least not easily) but you can quite easily output to Word. In excel I think you just get a record that says “(photo)” rather than an actual photo.

Probably of little use, but if you export to XML, I think the photos get dumped as Base64-encoded data. A guy of your caliber could probably concoct a bash/perl/python script to extract these.

How do I modify it? I just see a run and preview button?

Reports > Design Report > Open an existing report.

    Focus > Student > Photographs

Then in the the "Report Summary" box, click the "Default Output" link

All the bullet points are clickable links.

I use the following VB.net code for a similar problem in another application that may work for you:

Dim bytImageData() As Byte = "The bytes from the xml file"

    Dim stmImageData As New System.IO.MemoryStream(bytImageData)

    Dim RetrieveLogo = System.Drawing.Image

    RetrieveLogo = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(stmImageData)

If you subscribe to support net there are a number of photo reports that users have uploaded which you can download. For mine I've edited the rtf template to include the photos but it took a few attempts to get the formatting right. In short in a blank user defined template insert <RECORD START> (from the insert report field menu) underneath insert a table with 1 row for the name and 1 for row the photo. Put the required field names in the cells (<name> and <photo> in mine) then under the table <RECORD END>.

You then have to use page set up to get it into columns. It can take a bit of fiddling to get it how you want but it does work

Set the filters on the report in the usual way to get the class you want

Take a look in File Sharing on SupportNet.
Some the templates may need slight modification due to more recent updates but they are a good place to start.
