Just spent an hour on the phone with Capita SIMS, and it seems like they will let you use windows 7 for SIMS, but (And I quote the managers own words here) "We are refusing to support it for atleast 9 months-12 months until we have worked out some of the bugs or until a service pack is release for windows 7".
thats just not the info I wanted to hear!!

2nd July 2009, 11:39 AM #2 It's pretty lazy of them considering that 7 isn't all that different than Vista at it's core.
Plus it's not as if MS have been wildly changing the product with each beta, so they don't have that excuse either, given that it's been the same thing for the past 6/7 months

no! :P
But seriously tho, 9 to 12 months is pretty bad considering they've had ages to test it on a near final platform.

2nd July 2009, 01:07 PM #5 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME YOUR NOT USING WINDOWS 7 IN THE LIVE ENVIRONMENT?
Come on, no one installs the OS straight away, all the virus coders releases there work on release day.

2nd July 2009, 01:08 PM #6 of course not, anyone that crazy needs a slap.
We do however have it on our work laptops

2nd July 2009, 01:09 PM #8 Capita: Which OS you using to run SIMS?
NM/Tech: err... Windows XP (to self: virtual mode inside Windows 7
)

I heard the virtual mode was rather messy (ie doesn't work well)... anyone want to counter the statement?

2nd July 2009, 01:20 PM #10 I have used windows xp mode on windows 7, i think it works rather wel.. i have managed to get IE etc published using it.
I am tempting to try and publish SIMS but just have not round to it yet

2nd July 2009, 01:23 PM #11 I've read that XP mode works very well you just need a decent spec system and to give the VM more than the default 256Mb RAM.
I'm running the RC on my work desktop and it's been spot on. It's been finished for ages MS have spent alot of time making sure Vista SP3...err I mean Windows 7 is exactly right. I think Capita will see pretty quickly that SIMS works just fine on Windows 7 (trust me it does
), but they'll still probably take 9 months to give it the nod.

We'll be worried if IE didn't work!

2nd July 2009, 01:25 PM #13 Sims worked fine for me on Windows 7 without enabling any compatibility. You have to join the domain, then you run the simsinst.exe as normal... did have to copy the connect.ini over, it wouldn't use it from the mapped drive like XP did. We've given it to one teacher to try out but I don't think we'll be using Windows 7 for a long long time yet.
