Sims new installation
Yesterday our sims server just died. 2 out of 3 HDD (SCSI) stopped to work. So basically I got 2 new harddrives and now I started to install fresh copy of windows 2003. I have all backups, including sql agent backup.
Does anyone have instruction step by step how to configure sql and how to install sims server?
Never done it before, only what I know i need to install sql server 2005 and than run simsinst.exe and use dbattach but don't know any details
So can anyone help. Thanks

Set yourself up with an account at Capita Children's Services if you haven't already done so.
The instructions to do it are on there.

i completely agree with sylv3r a SupportNet account is invaluable and you should set one up right away if you don't have one.
i am attaching a file that i received from a friend i met on SupportNet. it is his own work, but helped me when i was setting up a virtual version of SIMS.
it's just here as a guide, you should still seek out the official instructions from Capita.
AND, if you use any part of these instructions it is completely at your own risk.
that said you may find them useful and it could be quicker than getting an account set up.

Thanks to both of you.
Account is on its way (waiting for Capita now).
I have managed to setup server with help from county sims support and telling the truth it was quite strait forward. Just run simsinst and attach databases
Just for some reason sims decided to reset all teachers passwords - but apart from that all is fine now.
Thanks again for help

Passwords are stored in the masters.
Assuming your not using it yet, you might want to restore on of the .bak files (made by solus during a sims upgrade - should be compressed) then override it with your .mdf\.ldf backup. Sorry, idea is rather complex so it's prob easier to reset all the passwords
