If anyone is after an inexpensive solution for the real time reporting to parents, have a look at Insight from Tasc software, costs us £500 a year and looks the best of the ones i have seen yet. We have the Sims Learning Gateway but only teachers and students use that, Insight is much better than what SIMS offers via SLG for parents.

We're going to blutack the SLG2 webparts on Sharepoint and host it all internally. Costing a bit to setup initially with new hardware and software licensing costs involved. Our intentions are to use at it's full potential and get the students using the VLE like they would their home drives. Fortunately we've also been busy implementing and ironing out electronic registration issues over the past year. So I think we're in a good position to go live by Sept 09 and gradually pump information out to parents!
Our SIM'S data manager over see's all the sims database issues, she's brilliant at it! I'd highly recommend you get a copy of her!
Finger's crossed it goes well. I've had mixed reviews about SLG2 but overall people seem confident that resolutions are in the pipeline.

We don't have SLG, so that was another reason to use Bromcom (cost differential).
