I'm in the process of converting the sims2ad to a moodle module to allow for better administration.

Could always use the commandreport tool to generate reports on a schedule, then link into those from your linux box.

what rights does a user need apart from third party reporting?
As currently i have created a user called SIMS2AD and it logs in fine but command reporter dies with an error of no permission on report.

You might want to create a custom security group with just the required permissions (be (completely) better then UniServity then) . Latest list is on capita's supportnet - 15163

I had a look at your report, it currently only lists students, i can't find a away in sims to show students and teachers with there roles.
Do you know of a way?
