Hi guys,
I've been volunteered to do the patches and upgrades on the SIMS.net system we have here.
There's been one or two little patches that needed running on the DB recently to fix minor bugs but each time we patch it's taken apporximately 45 minutes to do a complete DB backup.
The reason I'm asking this is that when the CAPITA techy came in to setup the SIMS Gateway he was telling me it should not be taking that long and there is a 'fix' for it.
I'm curious to what other people patch backup times are and if there is a fix.
Cheers,
Simon.

14th January 2009, 10:56 AM #2 What's the actual size of your database, and which backup method are you using? Depending on what its doing it may take this long, particularly if its compressing a large backup to a .zip format.
One thing to try might be using one of the other available methods to do a backup, without compressing the result, and see if there's a difference in time. If there is then you can run the dbupgrade console without doing a backup using the command dbupgrade /nobackup.

14th January 2009, 11:06 AM #3 There is a few options.
First you need the dynazip patch, which is basically now useless.
The other is to turn off compression on the backup file, patch 12460.
The final is to run dbupgrade with /nobackup. Just make sure you backup before you start!
It should be resolve in the march 09 release.

About the same time here and it does get a little tedious if you are having to just do a couple of patches i know but it all seems to work.
I save updates and patching until a Thursday night so i have the time to do it usually get out about 6 - 6:30 after everyone has logged out at 4:30, stop the terminal services on the remote Sims access and then update the terminal server Sims.net job done then on to McDonalds with webman and then on to college after that.

Back up time
Used to take 7 minutes. Went to over half an hour last year but I've now installed the patches(including the dynazip one), run the backups from dbattach and it is back to about 6 minutes for SIMS (2.5gb) and under 3 minutes for FMS
