Staff want to use SIMS from home, 2 options use it via VPN connection which I do not recommend or I setup a terminal server with SIMS on, they log in and use it there.
Has anyone else done this, is it a good idea?

TS works well as we have it up and running well. FMS still an issue along with Nova 4 (i know but they still want to use it). If they do not close nova and log off TS the user will lock NOVA so they can not timetable staff for cover as this has been done before.

I will build my SIMS TS tomorrow then!!

I'd agree - and besides, you'll probably find SIMS runs like a dog over a VPN

I've tested it over VPN and does run slow.

VPN - as said its crap to run that way
TS - runs fine (SIMS)
We actually use a combination of VPN & TS..
Staff are given an app created using the Connection Manager Kit, which they go home and install...
This then created a VPN that, upon successful connection, launches a TS Session to the school.. You can also include an RDP file in the CMAK app that has all the necessary options set for the connection (EG IP Address, screen size, Local drives & printer mappings)
Works well and staff seem happy with the installation - though I need to update it to include a EULA/Security Disclaimer caption and a few other bug fixes.
