SIMS system manager documentation
Hi
I am trying to navigate the system manager module and I am finding it very tedious. does anyone have any documentation on where various bits are stored? some pretty pictures would be nice or even a schematic about how the sims interface is constructed with how various permissions relate to it.
thanks
Pete

You should find that you have all of the documentation already loaded on your server. You can find a permission matix on our web site SupportNet.

9th December 2008, 11:53 AM #5 I do miss the old green-screen type module. With all it's LAN-ID goodness. I've rather suprised it's not been already made v.7, I would have though it would have made sense. Still roadmap states March 2010, I look forward to the beta, assuming I haven't left the public sector.

9th December 2008, 12:45 PM #6 Need to get to grips with SM pretty quickly as we reckon most our staff have too many permissions
Also - is there anyway to audit usage of SIMS?
Biggest problem is with reporting - someone created a report for staff contact details (legitimately) but...
Created a user and gave them Class Teacher access only - i was then able to run that same report and it will retrieve all the staff details asked for in the report, even though they themselves don't have the access rights to Personnel details..
I have since deleted all reports pertaining to staff details - and advised others to do the same and to ensure that the Private box is ticked when creating reports

9th December 2008, 12:49 PM #7 Capita creates a number of default groups, if you look on Supportnet you get a spreadsheet of your version of SIMS security details. Yes, they do change from release to release (sometimes).
I generally say create your own, normally cloning class teacher.
Class teacher by default will be able to see other members of staff, but only basic details, name, timetable etc. Not anything like contract. I would also recommend running regulary valid memberships, this clears up a hold load of "errors" that can occur in every aspect of SIMS.

2nd January 2009, 12:32 PM #8 Hmm...
The problem that i had is that I have no list of what effect changing each of the security keys has or the reverse and which keys to enable to effect certain things.
The example was when I took my custom, cut down, group and wanted to give our housemasters access to pupils reports (assessment manager marksheets). I found the key to enable the link but every time I clicked on it as a housemaster it crashed. I had to use trial and error to work out waht other key to enable get the feature to work properly. That tool a while
