Its not the most amazing piece of software but our SEN department seem to use it alot and does what they need it to do.

Its basically a form that completes a word template, sometimes had a few problems with the export of the details from IEP to Word but its usually a matter of permissions.

Apply to trial it. If you give them a call they will send a disc through the post. We are currently checking it out. Well i say we, the SENCO is supposed to be checking it out. I don't think she's even touched it since installed.

Our SENCO (who likes IT) tried it out and hated it. It just didn't fit in with the way our school worked.

As has been said, it does the job what the SENCO wants. It appears to be a case of choosing from a few drop down boxes and adding a bit of TXT. I think its much quicker then manually creating IEP's for students.

Our SENCO doesn't like it, it really does very little, yet still manages to fail from time to time.

Is it built into SIMS.net? or is it a separate product?

EDIT: Never mind, just realised that IEP Writer 3 by Learn How Publications is the same thing - Capita have bought them or something...

Thank you very much for your comments they were very useful. I am in the assessing the demo, and other alternatives. When I have come to a conclusion I'll let you know!

It seems like an old way of doing things but it works. It has a dodgey interface and pulls the information from sims and works with it locally. When you have finished, it merges it back.

Right here are my two pennies worth....for what its worth. Actually it seems to work although there are 3 aspects which I would critise it on: 1) aestetics of the interface (apparently this is the next project to get a .NET make over, information to be released in Jan 09). 2) it does not drag assessment data in 3) it does not deal with Subject Specific Targets coherantly (you can manipulate the system to allow it to deal with this, but there is nothing to do this specifically).
We are relying on an access database set up about 5 years ago, that seems to be fine. We have centralised access database that deals with pretty much everything, and I will integrate the 5 year old one into that. I have found a really handy tool in Access 2007 which allows you to create an attachment as a field. We will publish the IEP's as PDF's then attach these to a student as an intemediate solution.
