Been spending this half term updating all of the Servers (7 of them). Always wary, but all went ok. None of them have been updated since I started, so it was overdue.
Last one today was the SIMS server, but had to do the September Update first and that went with no hiccups. So, start the Windows Update. Server requests a restart so I duly oblige. Server boots up, but SIMS won't let me login. Check the Services and all but one of the SQL Services is running, and this particular one wont start (SIMS2005).
Me, panic slightly at this point, but try a restart and thankfully this solved the issue. But why would a Windows Update break SIMS?
I always avoid letting Window Update do hardware driver updates as this has broken servers in the past for me.
Still, all working now though.
Pete
