Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to display (via excel or on paper)
A list of what groups / permissions people have on SIMS ?
I relaise that I can do this inside the System Manager os SIMS .net, but what we want to do is audit exactly what permissions / groups people have.
The reason is, that we have had people (mostly clerical staff), start at the school, and then change jobs, and we suspect that people have rights to stuff they don't need to have.
I have looked through the System Manager, but there doesn't seem to be any way to export this... unless I'm being stupid.
I dont think you're being stupid - i spent a long time looking for something similar and couldnt find anything
What i ended up doing (and somewhat painstakingly) was downloading the SIMS.net permission spreadsheet from the Capita forum and then crosschecking user rights against the users on our systems
The only flaw here is if you have user defined groups which obviously wont be on the aforementioned spreadsheet
I have this handy file, although it could be a little out of date now...
But its no report, you would have to manually check.
I really don't want to have to do this manually...
What I was hoping was to be able to (for example) get a list of all the users in the "Class Teachers" group, so that I could check they all were still teachers.
I know there is at least one person who has changed from being a Teacher to being Support staff, and I reckon if I haven't changed his access, then no other bugger has.
Zip file is corrupt?
Works for me as well.
Corrupt for mefile ooopps I stop using the Download Manager lol working ok
System Manager in general could do with a total re-write. It's fairly diabolical to view any permissions or assign roles with the permissions you want. And why the hell isn't that permissions spreadsheet part of the System Manager Help file?
If I try to run Permissions Explorer from the Tools menu I get all manner of white-outs and long waits for the blasted thing to load and has anyone ever managed to get the Access Log to work without having a 14 hour wait?
And why can't we lock out users with System Manager like we used to be able to do in the good old days of DOS? Get your finger out, Capita!
Grrrrr.![]()
Assuming the link works right:
http://support.capitaes.co.uk/user/d...D4%DC%F1%9B%D2
You'll need a Capita logon to access it, this is the current one, from 30/9/2008
You might be better going via: http://support.capitaes.co.uk/user/resources.asp
For reference, we found no way to print it off, so we are going to create a bunch of groups, giving the access that we want, and then put people inside these groups, and not in the SIMS built-in ones.
But it means the Admin Staff need to go through each person and decide what access they need....

Here are the documents I found.
Sims System Manger Notes (training)
Sims User Roles Permissions
A while back myself and a SIMS guy from another school sat down and editted the SIMS document on permissions to tell you what the permissions actually related to, which I kow some people found useful.
We however have gone down the route of having completely custom permission groups, I find it easier to tailor the permissions exactly to hide the sections we just don't use.
