Surely you have to be on M$ products anyway. Does SIMS even run on any other OSes?
Actually that's a valid question for all the MIS systems mentioned. What if the school was sponsored by Apple...? I figure, going completely web based would be the way to go...

I was referring to the need for Microsoft Office, when Open Office could be used instead.

Back to Steve's original question
"Are there any schools on this forum that are in Surrey or Hampshire that I can come and have a look."
SchoolBase has a lot of schools in Surrey and Hampshire. It provides online access for staff and parents who can link to data held at your school and the tailored, easy to use SchoolBase MIS. Call SchoolBase for a list of schools you can contact and/or a demonstration (Tel: 01264 354 111).

22nd October 2009, 12:54 PM #49 The nice thing about facility / eportal is that you can give parents access to e-portal to show them information regarding their child, so the worry about integrating into a VLE is reduced as you can provided a link to eportal

The same could be said for other suppliers MIS/online solution as well. For example SchoolBase has a combined in-school MIS with Parent, Pupil and Staff portals and also has links to a VLE of your choice.

As Jay said
RM Integris G2 is fully web based and we use it in our County
Some of our secondary schools used to use Serco CMIS, and all were glad to get shot of it

28th October 2009, 09:18 PM #52 From what I've seen about so far, any MIS is only as good as the way it's set up and used. The biggest problems people have with sims and cmis come down to the fact that they can be configured to do things the way you want. If a mis prescribed how things work, what you can do, what reports and analyses are available, etc, then they'd be a lot simpler to use (and to maintain).

All I can say is that it is a pleasure to work with such a brilliant MIS as SIMS. Round the twist? I don't think so. Staff are delighted about how efficient systems are!

Do I spy a capita employee - lets face it ALL MIS systems have their issues and none of them are brilliant.

I have now added my school to my Profile. I know that several contributors here already knew that anyway from my involvement on SupportNet and the use of the common avatar.
So 'No!' You did not spot a Capita employee - just a very, very satisfied customer! And if you do not think that any MIS is brilliant then you obviously have not grasped the true capacity of SIMS.

I totally agree! I'm am a very avid Sims.net supporter having worked with both Facility CMIS and Sims.net. I know that Sims.net is a very powerful and strong system that works very well in many schools across the country! I want to centralise everything to Sims.net.
