    Exporting Photos

Any one know how to get Photos (actual jpegs, gifs or bmps) out of SIMS. I have heard talk of a tool, Photo Extractor, but can't find it anywhere. Also the way of running NovaT and then looking in a folder now seems to be broken.

    Any ideas?

Doesn't seem to work anymore Says I don't have a sims.ini or sims.net installed on my system. Strangely enough I have both.

Ta though, I think that may have been what I needed.

Do you need them extracted in a manner that links them to the pupil (i.e fredd_blogs.jpg)?

Assuming they were done by a school photographer, the original cd / dvd with them on should be kicking around somewhere and (if the photographer is good) there'll be a csv linking image name to pupil name.

    Use a report

You can design a report based on a Capita original that you should have in Reports, under the Student folder in the file explorer called Photographs.

The original report may suffice with no modification. Had to figure this out a while ago myself for one of our teachers.

Luckily we are getting a cashless catering system setup at October half term and they are taking all student fingerprints and photographs over a 4 day period at the end of September. Probably just as well as the photographs we have on SIMS are pretty old and not all students were taking.

    Sorry to gravedig, guys!

But does anybody have an updated copy of the Photo Exporter or similar?

It did work for us at one point, back in September, but now it doesn't work and we need to get all of the photos out of SIMS again for use with ID badge software.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

You can get photos out by creating an RTF report in SIMS .net containing the photo field and whatever else you require (name & reg?)

Run this report then in word do a save as and save as html.

This will give you a web page and a folder, the folder will contain all of the photos as jpeg's, they only have an alphanumeric number but they are all linked to the correct students in the web page

Easier is to use the origional photographer's cd

    Photo Export

I've just knocked up a quick utility to do this. Have a look at http://www.salamandersoft.co.uk/utilities.html.

One thing to beware of is that there may be copyright restrictions on what you are allowed to do with the photos.

    Hi RPwillis,

Thanks for that, it has solved half of the issue and works very effectively!

But, can it also be made to export Staff photos aswell?

    Absolutely brilliant little app, legend!

    Staff now supported

OK, now updated it for staff, just add another argument staff
e.g. PhotoExport.exe blacka abcd myFolder staff

    You'll need to re-run GenerateConfigFile.bat first.

odd, it managed to get 23 images out and then it went mad and put what i can describe as the matrix onto my screen with an obscene beeping sound which sounded like a bomb was going to go off!

not sure what is causing it, it scrolls so fast you can't see it.
