    Can't launch simsload and pulsar from script since June update

    Wasn't sure whether to stick this in MIS or coding, but I think the issue is caused by a SIMS update.

    I provide a link to SIMS on our intranet using the launchinie control.

    Since the June update, running simsload with pulsar as the parameter doesn't seem to work. It flashes up the simsload checking for updates screen, then doesn't run pulsar. This is the code I use on the page:
    Code:
    <SCRIPT language=JavaScript>
      function launchApp(strCmdLine)
    {
        var obj = new ActiveXObject("LaunchinIE.Launch");
        obj.LaunchApplication(strCmdLine);
      }
    </SCRIPT>
    <UL><A title="Registers, marksheets, timetables." href="javascript:launchApp('c:\\program files\\sims\\sims .net\\simsload.exe pulsar.exe')">
    <LI>SIMS</A>

    I can recreate the problem with a standard vbscript file as well:

    Code:
    Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.Run """c:\program files\sims\sims .net\simsload.exe"" ""pulsar.exe"""
    If I drop simsload and just make pulsar the target, it launches fine.

    Any ideas? Have Capita drastically changed the SOLUS client in the June update?

    rather than using just pulsar.exe, try putting the full path in there. I just tried it on my test box and it seemed to work ok.

    Hi, that works in the vbscript, but not in the javascript. When I put the full path in the javascript, it does the same thing (launches simsload, but not pulsar):

    Code:
    <UL><A title="Registers, marksheets, timetables." href="javascript:launchApp('c:\\program files\\sims\\sims .net\\simsload.exe c:\\program files\\sims\\sims .net\\pulsar.exe')">
    <LI>SIMS</A>

    not really sure on how javascript handles spaces, but maybe you'd need some quotes around the paths?

    Yeah, that workaround (pointing the javascript link at a vbs on a network share) seems to work, thanks very much.
