We probably won't get it sent through by the LEA until after the date, but even if we did do I probably wouldn't have installed it anyway.

Fallback is using a local Primary school's network. We're handing out paper results there anyway, and if our network (or rather the link to county) isn't up and running, we will be packing up our server and 1 PC and shipping them down there as well. Worrying about SIMS updates is a headache we can do without at this time!

Make sure you have a nice risk assessment for taking the Sims server out on a jolly particularly what should happen if the car is stolen, you drop it etc.

If the (my) car is stolen, rest assured I'll be on the case

Not a bloody chance of ANY SIMS updates going near my server that close to results dafay!!

Thats just suicide! - I'd might as well pick up my P45 as I install the update!

Capita isn't exactly renowned for trouble free updates!

Deputy Head Who Does SIMS (DHWDS) came into the office asking about it this morning, he'd seen the doc from capita* re results days and interpreted it (in his words) as "some of the courses (which we don't offer) might require parts of the upgrade to process results".

DHWDS has since determined that we're covered and we don't need the update for our results processing.

As I don't actually do much on results days apart from being there in case things go titsup, I don't know what form the processing takes or what it may/may not affect.

Didn't mean to cry Wolf, I was just flagging up a potential train wreck so people can see if it affects anyone.

I updated Sims the day before A-Levels 2 yrs ago - and knacked everything! Luckily I got through to Capita and they held my hand as we rebuilt the server!

I learn't a valuable lesson that day - never do a Sims update in August!

If I've read into it properly, the update is released on the 8th but isn't required until the GCSE Results Day on 21st as there's a patch to be applied for the first one which we've already applied.

    Could be wrong mind you.

Do you mean it has to be applied between A-level and GCSE Days? Capita's support department are going to stampeded!

It can be applied any time from the 8th (if its released on time) up to the 21st.

There's an interim patch to handle the 'first' results day for the A Levels.

I'll dig out the email we were sent from .ict in the morning which outlines what's going on.
