Anybody else having this? We got our quote yesterday, and when i enquired as to available install dates i was told late october/november at best
There is no self install option so we will be paying silly money for the install too.
Just seems a very long time to wait, just when you think you can have it all running by september
If they are charging close to 1000 a day for installation, how they do not have more staff for installing this stuff i do not know.
O well typical Capitas. Nothing goes to plan.
I couldn't say for definite but I know our LEA is getting it sorted (so by association we are too) over the summer so if others are doing the same it could be you are just unlucky trying to vye against huge orders from whole counties.
We are getting it installed next Thursday and Friday - if anybody wants to know anything about the installation then ask away and I can find out at the end of next week for you.
Tom
I will try and post a report up of the installation then if thats any help to you?
Tom
Yeah that would be great.
posted to wrong thread
We are getting the SIMS webparts installed during the second week of the holidays but not the actual SIMS Learning Gateway.
We use SIMS.net in school and want both remote access for teachers to write into Assessment Manager and parental online reporting. We are looking at SLG but I would like to know what other (reasonably priced) options we have?
The SLG installation is basically an AD schema update, creating some OUs, installing a couple of MSIs, & adding users to SLG.
We couldn't believe we were forced to have to pay for the install when we could have done it ourselves with Capita on the end of the phone if we needed them.
Having said that, their engineers (OK, the two we had anyway), are bloody good.
Im having this done too in a few weeks time - as soon as Capita get back to me with a dat (the order was placed ages bac.... thanks Ben for checking it out for me!!)....
How long did the install take, and did they go through the AD provisioning stuff too?
Stuart

Are the files available? I'd like to do a dummy run on a virtual machine before letting loose on our live server.
We paid for SLG back in December but haven't got round to installation yet, and still need to do plenty of planning. Due to location we are going to have to do it over the phone, however i'd rather do it on a test installation first.
I think at best i'm going to need two virtual machines, one to be the AD DC and the other to host everything else, SIMs, SQL, Sharepoint etc. I know that's far from ideal, but wont be how it works when we go live [ ;O) ]
Any further info' you have would be great.
Reading the document, I though you would need 3?
1 AD
1 IIS
1 SIMS

yes you're right, but for this test i want to do, i didn't think it would matter if sims was on the same box as sharepoint, apart from making it horrendously slow! the only reason i don't merge all 3 is that i read somewhere that there are caveats to installing MOSS on a server that has AD.
