Is anyone ruining an MIS system with a mySQL back end?

I don't, our MIS system is Serco CMIS which uses MSSQL server as its backend. I do however use mySQL extensively for web applications like Moodle, and it's been 100% reliable for the 3 years+ that I've used it for those type of things.
Why do you ask, is there something specific you'd like you know about it, or just queries about the general reliability, security of it etc.
