Has anyone got any experience of using Phoenix E1. It looks like a pretty good option from a management & support point of view, as it's web-based & hosted centrally.
Any feedback would be gratefully received.

Norfolk LA are rolling this out to their schools to replace Phoenix Gold - see link
http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk/Sch...formation.aspx
Our partner school has used it since september. It is abysmal by all accounts. They, and we, are moving over to Serco Facility (which doesn't seem any better).
The main problems are configurability, if you need to do a specific task then it either takes a long time to do or you can't do it at all. This is mainly the case with data exports so if you aren't going to need to do complex exports then this won't be an issue.
Bear in mind that E1 is remotely hosted so if you like having all your stuff under one roof then this could be an issue.
Apparently e1 is absolutely terrible.
On the note of Phoenix Gold - Does anyone know how easy is it to export data from Phoenix into Facility Admin?
Yes, E1 got a big thumbs down from here too. Exporting data from Phoenix Gold to Facility Admin is a nightmare. Don't underestimate how long this will take you. I keep thinking there must be a better way, using ODBC or something, but haven't figured it out yet. If anyone has any info or advice, it would be very much appreciated.

The trouble with changing to any MIS is that they all work differently and staff training etc....
We are committed to moving to the E1 platform and have staff training next week with a go live date of the 3rd of march.
Several schools in Norfolk are allready using it.
Lots of issues still need to be fixed and like has been said if the system doesn't currently do something you want the process for getting something changed/fixed does appear to take a long time.
The product iteself has changed considerably from the first demos of it I saw.
For us it's a bit of better the devil you know.
We couldn't justify spending 3 times the amount of money moving to another platform which as some have said ain't any better.

Can I ask how your move to e1 went?
We'd be very keen to hear if it is going smoothly or not, since we too are having to get away from Phoenix Gold because of IT Compliancy issues, and although we were on the early adopter scheme for e1 two years ago it literally fell by the wayside because it was not developed enough at that time for us to even evaluate.
We're also interested in the possibility of moving to e1 - though some of this reports sound dire. If it does what it says on the tin it should be at least as good as Serco's offering (and our impression is that the report writer is better), but it sounds like it doesn't. Be very interested to hear if anyone has made a successful go of it.

Would not recommend E1, find something else if you can.
Trish, get in touch - our experience of corrupted data is usually to do with pre-migration and/or pre-rollout planning; I might be able to help. Nibs.thomas@Pearson.com

Well I have to say that allthough we have had a few issues with it the implementation of e1 here has been a success allthough I think that is down to all the planning before hand and having an ex gold specialist as our data manager as well.
We have staff doing lesson registration with and allthough they don't always all complete this it has reduced the admin load for entering this information greatly.
We have staff wanting to use it more and more and we also have a vle rollout happening and people seem to be coping with the slight information overload.
Ben
I would imagine so.
The effect on Secondary Schools would be unimaginable compared to the primaries.
We migrated over the summer, with Serco doing the data transfer for us - it went pretty well, to be honest. The only niggles i've heard in relation to the accuracy of the transfer relate to medical notes that have been truncated in the process.
I'm quite liking Facility - its extremely configurable and barring some quirks, we're having a decent time of getting it to do what we want. The major barrier is having the time to experiment with it; there are training manuals and courses to go on, but many features, especially Reporting ones, are undocumented...
