Output student photos as .bmp files

    Hi

Is it possible to output all the student photos in SIMS to individual bmp files, ideally with some form of unique identifiable name?

Got to produce 1000 library cards over the summer and the card software will import a .bmp file which would make life 10000 times easier...

    Thanks
    Andrew

You could try my little utility if you want, I wrote it to do something similar: SIMS Image Grabber - Dropbox

Import the report in to SIMS.net, then run it and save the output as XML. Then, run my program (you'll need to do it in a console) and it'll extract all the photos from the XML for you - run it with no arguments for a "how to"

It saves as JPG at the moment, but if you must have BMP you could either use another program like IrfanView to convert them all, or I can probably add the option to my program for you.

Thank you so much for this. Downloaded, imported, run, crashed, edited the output bit in the report (as it's looking for your desktop), ran it again and I now have 1200 images

This has saved me sooooo much time

    Cheers

Haha yeah I probably ought to change that

Glad it helped you out - one of those niggling things that rears it's head every now and then!

    Good afternoon LosOjos,

I am trying to use your image grabber from SIMS, thank you by the way. I was having a little trouble, whenever I try and run it I get "-Failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" loads of times in the command prompt window. Is this something to do with the way I have designed the report in SIMS or am I using image grabber wrong?

Any help would be massively appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Darragh Lucas

    Hi @dlucas

Have you tried importing the report included in the ZIP and running that? Are you a member of the "Third Party Reporting" permissions group in SIMS?

Silly question - have you actually clicked "Import" at the bottom of the window?

The report will just sit in the list with "pending..." status until you do, that's why I ask...

Also, just remembered someone else had a problem when they tried to run the report as it tries to save it to my desktop's path, so you'll need to open it up in report editor and change that path when you have imported it!

    Haha, I feel silly now, I'm a bit of a SIMS n00b.
Thanks that works really well! I'm assuming I can edit the report to say, only do Year 8?

    thanks again!

Yeah, just edit it in "Reports > Design Report" and add a filter. If you want an easy way to run it, I use the BAT script (put it in the same directory as the EXE and create a folder called "Photos" in there too):

    Code:
    @ECHO off

    ECHO Deleting previously downloaded photos...
    ECHO Y | DEL "%CD%\Photos\*.jpg"

ECHO Downloading ZZZ_PHOTO_EXTRACT photos from SIMS...
    START "Downloading ZZZ_PHOTO_EXTRACT photos from SIMS" /wait /min "C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net\commandreporter.exe" /user:USERNAME /password:PASSWORD /report:"ZZZ_PHOTO_EXTRACT" /output:simsrep.xml

    ECHO Extracting photos from XML...
    START "Extracting photos from XML" /wait /min SIMSImageGrabber.exe /S:simsrep.xml /D:"%CD%\Photos"

    ECHO Deleting XML...
    DEL simsrep.xml

    ECHO Done!
    PAUSE

Yeah he does but I needed to output the photos with ID as file name, so I wrote my own.
