SIMS - Training Datasets
Getting ready for the new year...
I have downloaded the new Datasets for SIMS December.
Now... the LA deal with the Live data in SIMS.net - I am not going to touch that... but would like on our the other network to install a training dataset SIMS.
Can anybody give / tell me a step by step way to do it... I have so far managed to do so but just can't logon ... SIMS.net Configuration Fails!!! But can get in to the SQL tables.

Is this something your LA has made availible or did you download it from a Capita website?

Re: SIMS - Training Datasets
I find it normally easiest to do a clean install using installers from my live system setups then use the db restore script.
It's basically disaster recovery but using the training data rather than your actual live system backups.
The data version must match the rest of system e.g. client executables.

I think something like this happened to me once. Have you done a clean install? Is it failing at the configuration of the blank database?
If so then just proceed to the restore of the training data.
Check that the connect.ini file in the client app folder or S:\SIMS folder (if you redirect) is pointing to the correct server, SQL instance and database. If not then amend accordingly.

Re: SIMS - Training Datasets
Its a clean install as I don't touch the settings or anything related to Live Sims.net...
I am installing on the other network as a trial for certain staff to familarise them with functions....
Its fails to forward with "Sims.net Configuration" ... and when I run it manually it asks for SQL Login details ... you need 'Permission to configure database' I enter my SQL username and password which is the 'SA' login which I was prompted to do at install and fails with 'Invalid Login Details'. Trusted also fail ... even though it should work!!
I don't have anything to restore... :?

From the initial post, I thought you were using the Green Abbey dataset as the training database.
That's what I thought you were restoring on to your standalone system :?

You sure your using mix mode rather than windows authentication?
What happens if you use the username and password for the local admin on the SIMS server in order to connect to the database?

Oh... that is what I am doing! But what I did was attach it using DB Attach.
Was that the wrong thing to do? ... Should I do the restore instead... May be I should uninstall everything and then start again?! :?

Just had a look at the training data it has the MDF an LDF rather than sql BAK file. In that case dbAttach is the way to go.
But I'm geting confused the Database configuartion normally happens towards the end of a clean install with a blank database. If you cannot connect to the database at this poin then wouldn't be able to use dbAttach.
What you could do is create another instance and dbAttach onto that.
