FMS BACS eAdvices - setup on hosted solution?
Currently trying to setup the BACs eAdvices on a SIMS centrally hosted FMS but currently getting errors.
On the configuration page I've entered the following;
Server = smtp.office365.com
Port = 25 or 587 (tried both)
Username = email@example.com
Password = userpassword
User STARTTLS Encryption = tried with and without
Requires authentication = Yes
Return address = firstname.lastname@example.org
When I hit test connection I get the error "Connection to specified server failed".
Asked SIMS but they have been less than helpful saying nothing to do with them basically and wouldn't confirm if it is even possible on a hosted solution.
Has anyone managed to get this working on a hosted FMS with O365 or see whats wrong with config above? Logged into O365 and the smtp.office365.com is listed and correct so unsure whats wrong if its not the capita end?

Sorry to bump but has anyone any ideas? Capita saying its not their issue, and both Microsoft and RM saying its not theirs but Capita's as they host the software, which makes total sense and is what I anticipated, but stuck in crossfire at moment with nothing else to try.

From the computer you are setting up the BACS, have you tried connecting to the SMTP server using telnet on port 25 and sending a test email? Instructions for doing this are here - How To Test Exchange SMTP operations using Telnet
We had problems setting FMS BACS up here using our internal Exchange server, the solution was to set up a seperate SMTP connector, don't know if this can be done in Office 365.

Cheers @teejay I dont believe I can do that because the software is hosted by Capita and we access it through an RDS connection, its not actually installed in the school anywhere.

Is it running as a remote desktop or as a remote app? If as a desktop then it should work if telnet has been enabled, if not then I'd ask Capita to enable it so you can do some diagnostics. TBH, if Capita are hosting it and it's their software then really its up to them to find a solution.

are you still having issues with fms bacs

If we are hosting your database this is an issue we should address - BACS is an important service. Please re-contact the desk and I'm sure they will help. Please raise to a manager if you don't get a proper answer.

Cheers @PhilNeal and @sammy42 managed to get it going in the end. Required the use of the Capita server details with no encryption or authentication.
