Ah welcome to the being ignored club, still waiting to hear who has the problems that warrants a new MIS in the first place - ie headteacher, office staff, techy. Anyway, I'll shut up now.
Why, are you from SIMS? It is used at a primary school and it seems to be bloaty and dated. The way it's being upgraded seems like patchwork, and the newer alternatives seems to be going in the right direction.

You lot seem have a good knowledge of systems. Why don't you build one?

Nope. Not sure they would want me, I'm pretty annoying when I want people to fix something for me. - Yes @GREED, this is me tame.

Sounds pretty techy reason, so how will this make peoples lives better who actually use the system. Believe it or not, I know a "club" that bought SIMS as it was easier then a spreadsheet for basic record keeping, I know, keeps me up at night as well.

I personally don't believe you can profit from schools - clearly people do, just not sure I'm one of them. If the public sector built something, I'd be all over that like a rash.

Can pee the user off by being so slow.

Don't think the public sector would want to do that after spending so much on the NHS System

If I had some sort of backing then sure away we go!

On a serious note I have always considered a kickstarter project to raise such funds.

Oh okay, so you're from Scholarpack? What's the data migration like to Scholarpack? If I wanted to export from SIMS to Scholarpack?

One room elephant for an Open Source MIS would be the schools census. Apart from the requirements changing year to year, the number of different flavours of it would make keeping up with it a bit of a nightmare. It's not exactly the kind of software you sit down and write for fun. Well ... if you do, seek help!

    I don't think it's hard. I just think red-tape can be a brick wall.

Funny enough I said that on Twitter, what if Google\someone wrapped a MIS around it.
@pcstru - don't think census would be too much of a problem if you had someone dedi too it, it's pretty well documented, it's things like OfSted that are pretty difficult - personally.

Not 'hard' as in doing n dimensional tensor calculus in your head, but hard as in a *lot* of work - a lot of code to spec, produce and test. Open source project are often as not founded by people who have a passion for doing that sort of thing. I think it would be hard to find someone with a passion for coding up the many flavours of the Schools Census. Still, as they said of Neo, perhaps you are the one?

Maybe not call it opensource, but a community based project? We have the users and testers on here. We just need the developers right?
