    SQL 2005 - port number

Having implemented a One School One LAN I had encrypted SIMS traffic from the rest of the network using IPSec.
Before the database conversion I found the SQL port number by going to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Bin\SVRNETCN.EXE

How dou find the current port number for SQL 2005 or should it remain the same?

go to "SQL Configuration Manager" and then click on protocols for MSSQLSERVER and on the right of the MMC console if you get the TCP/IP Properties and under the IP addresses tab, it tell you what port it is running on.

If it is left at default, then it should be 1433

Hmmm ... Interesting. Have considered the implication of 'flat network" on security and specifically "man in the middle attack" - see the thread 'flat networs' under Windows forum. Good luck!!!
