Do you employ a DBA/Systems administrator

This is a message posted on behalf of the Headteacher. We'd be grateful for any feedback.

We are intruducing a new management information system, ISAMS. I would like to know whether any of you employ anyone to manage your information system (iSAMS, SIMS or others) and how much time they spend and what they are paid. Any information about what exactly they do would be most helpful, too.

Hi, My role is SIMS System Manager in a secondary school with 1000 students and 100 staff. I also do training for new staff, training for students on Adobe software, website design and updating the school website, profile reports in SIMS, census data, and other jobs in school. I am on Grade 6 (not enough in my mind), hope this helps you.

Data managers are very common in schools, many of us here! We have our own group too (someone has the link).

It revolves around collecting and disseminating grades, student progress and general school data to parents, staff and SLT. MIS maintenance is also common varying from keeping a few systems within the database running to full blown server access. Check around other local schools for pay and conditions guidance as it varies depending on what each data manager does. They also typically work under a member of SLT and in some cases have direct access to SLT and the Head to provide advice and assistance.

Normally the role would involve using Sims or iSams, not necessarily the database and upgrade work.

That usually falls the schools network manager as it is a much more technical role.

We have a Data Manager, full-time, on Scale S01 who looks after Facility & SIMS (and a part-time Data Assistant on Scale-naffall)... but any backend database maintenance / updates etc are handled by our IT Support Team.
