    SIMS/SQL Server 2012 Migration

    Hi guys,

Just wondering how well your migration of SQL to SQL Server 2012 went? I'm trying to weigh up the option of either doing this work myself or taking up Capita on their offer of doing the migration for 300.

I've read the "Migrating SIMS, FMS and Discover to SQL 2012" doc from SupportNet and it seems to be deceptively easy!! :-)

Are there any gotchas with the process? Is there anything that caught you out (even with the initial install of SQL 2012)?

Our SIMS server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 Standard. We also use Discover so I'm going to hold off on the migration until after the Autumn 2013 release.

    Thanks in advance!!

I intend to carry out the upgrade at a couple of my schools, it's a lot of money even after discount for what should only take half an hour! Plus have the bonus of having a spare admin server I can test on
Follow the instructions on Supportnet and you can't really go too far wrong tbh

Not done it in any schools yet. The Summer upgrade has caused enough issues!

We've been migrating where a new Server has been installed in schools. Seems a relatively simple process - uncomplicated as we don't have SOLUS3 installed in many schools yet

I have been migrating schools onto new servers over the summer holidays. I have done a handful of migrations to SQL2012, installing Discover and doing SOLUS3 with no issues. Not sure if Capita are doing Discover and SOLUS3 along with the migrations. Going forward its more cost affective to do everything in one hit as I am doing for schools at the moment.

I'll be doing ours (and some others) this February holiday; we are completely virtualised here so I'll take a snapshot/backup and then go through the motions.

I managed to do ours pretty easily and smoothly using the migration utility included in one of the KB articles on SupportNet.

I have been completing the migrations and installing SOLUS3 in one visit. Will be starting the next batch of schools once the Spring version is released. Please contact me if you want a quote.
