2003 to 2008 migration - No user passwords.

    Hi.

Last week I initiated a move of our SIMS data to a new server (from server Windows version 2003 to server 2008). I followed the usual SIMS method using DBattach etc and all seemed to go well right up until I attempted to log in.

So I call Capita and somebody dials into our servers. After a few minutes we manage to get the sysman password changed and we go in and we can see all the data - it's all there apart from user passwords.

We change my password and I can log in and I confirm that yes the data is all there where it should be only problem is nobody else would be able to get in (Thankfully the database isn't live yet.) They then say they need to escalate the call.

This was last week and I've heard nothing since. I've been pestering them quite a bit but have heard nothing.

Has anyone else had the same issue? I really need to get this resolved soon as possible.

This happens sometimes when you detach the database before transfering the logins from the master table. It's best practice to force a transfer of the logins form the master database into the SIMS/FMS databases before detaching them and copying them to the new server. you can do this by running these commands via SSMS against the SIMS and FMS databases:

    SIMS: exec sims.sims.db_p_transfer_login
    FMS: exec ccsfms.sims.db_p_transfer_login

Sorry - we can't trace a call like this. Please recall our desk if you still need assistance.
