alter backup following installation of new sims server???

Hi There,

I really dont know much about all of this but a friend has asked me this question because im normally knowledgable on general computing things but havent got a clue on this one and was wodnering if anyone could help.

he said he needs help altering a backup app/program after the installation of a new sims server, what does he mean by that and how would i go about trying to help him out?

i think he means that his backup program does not stop backup sql in which case he needs to install an agent for his backup program or do manual sql backup.

well he said to me and i quote "they need to have their backup altered following installation of a new sims server"

so would your solution be the correct approach then?

If your friend has had a new SIMS Server installed then he will need to modify the backup application he uses to also backup the SIMS Server.

Easiest way to do this would be to backup everything on the server, but if he has limited space on his backup media he will need to backup the following:

D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\...\MSSQL\Data

D:\Docstorage

D:\...\SIMS\SQL

These are the locations on the SIMS Server here so your friends paths may be different.

If he is using Backupexec he will probably need the SQL Agent installed on the server. If he is using NT Backup he will need to run a batch file before the backup runs to stop SQL and another to run after the backup completes to start SQL again.
