The SQL2005 upgrade & Sims.Net migration went okay (can log in to Sims.Net okay) but now I've got loads of 'Failure Audit - Login failed for user 'sims'. [CLIENT: xx.xxx.xx.xx]' messages in the Application log.

I know the cause but can I change the Authentication Mode of the SQL server from "Windows Authentication Mode (Windows Authentication)"
to "Mixed Mode (Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication)" as the KB resolution suggests? Or will this bugger things up?
Have you restarted the server?
You should be OK as long as you don't use single sign on for SIMS (it should have been set to mixed anyway :?)
Once you've switched to mixed mode you will still get a few of these. According to capita these error messages are for information only and are no need for concern(except when your error log gets chokka block and your server falls over)

Hi TeddyKGB,
Thanks for the help. Yeah, have rebooted the box a few times, and that's what's confused me as it is set to mixed as per Capita's instructions but I'm still getting rafts of these messages appearing.
Suppose I'm not suprised Capita are saying we should expect to see these messages. Just don't like the words FAILURE AUDIT filling up my log lol. Have notified LEA support but as it's the holiday I'm not expecting a response until next Monday.
Al you can really do is verify that the reg value LoginMode=2 (where "[blah]" is probably "MSSQL.1") in this key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\[blah]\MSSQLServer
Then wait for Capita to sort it out (what do you think your LEA can do?).

Thanks for the info. As to what the LEA can do - perhaps they could sacrifice a chicken or something? 8OOriginally Posted by PiqueABoo
Hi
I get exactly the same 'Failure Audit' entries in the Application Log. Dozens of them!
I'm running in mixed mode as required and the SIMS upgrade to SQL2005 was fine and all works correctly. So why these entries??
If anybody out there can work this out...
This is caused by some redundant pre-August code for Teachers Desktop upgrades. It should have no effect on your use of SIMS. It may not be possible to fix this for November release but should be fine for December.
Dunno about yours but we're usually too busy sticking pins into effigies of school NetMans..perhaps they could sacrifice a chicken or something?![]()
