Re: SIMS MSDE
The migration process should automatically detach the SIMS database from the MSDE instance and attach it to the SQL Express instance.

Re: SIMS MSDE
You'd think so, but I'm fairly surely the MSDE instance is still running?!

Re: SIMS MSDE
msde will still be running sims took the decision to do a side by side install of sql 2005 not an inplace upgrade just in case you have other stuff other than sims that requires the msde still.

Re: SIMS MSDE
The SIMS instance will still be running, but there should be no SIMS database attached to that instance after migration. This can be tested by either running dbAttach and seeing what databases are available on the MSDE instance to detach, or trying to copy the SIMS.MDF & LDF. (You won't be able to copy them if they are still attached)

Re: SIMS MSDE
The migration process should redirect the old instance to the new 2005/express, sort of similar to a redirection that the royal mail do when you move house.

Re: SIMS MSDE
In the end I checked the connect ini files to ensure they were looking at the right instance...then i stopped the old one and waited for the calls to coming flooding in..nearly two days later..nada!!
